Biologically Inspired Materials Institute (BIMat)

Originally established under NASA sponsorship as a University Research, Engineering and Technology Institute (URETI) in August 2002, its mission was to develop new autonomous materials for space technology using bioinspired and biomimetic processes. Before closing, the institute was heavily invested in the fabrication, characterization, and application of graphene, graphene oxide, and functionalized graphene sheets, work that continues amongst the original participating institutions.
